Top surprising density pairs

  • Bangladesh vs Russia — Bangladesh packs far more people into a fraction of Russia's land.
  • Netherlands vs United States — Compact Europe often out-densifies continental giants.
  • South Korea vs Canada — Megacity corridors beat empty northern latitudes.
  • Singapore vs Australia — City-state intensity vs a sparsely settled continent.
  • Rwanda vs Argentina — Small African nations can out-density sprawling Americas.

How scoring works

Population density is people per square kilometer: we divide each country's population by its total area from our game snapshots. Guess whether the challenger is more or less densely populated than the known country. One wrong answer ends the endless run.

Display labels round for readability, but comparisons always use the underlying ratio. Countries with missing or non-positive area are excluded from this Higher or Lower Game mode.

Why density feels different from population

Huge countries can look dominant on a map and still feel empty: Canada, Australia, and Russia spread people thin. Compact states and island corridors — Bangladesh, South Korea, the Netherlands — punch far above their landmass.

If you already play Country Population and Country Area, density is the third lens: it rewards knowing where people actually cluster, not only how many there are or how big the border looks.

Data sources and snapshot date

Density is derived from our UN World Population Prospects population figures and UN Statistics Division total-area figures. It is a transparent game snapshot, not a live census product.

Tips to extend your streak

Ask "where do people live?" before "how big is the country?". Desert and tundra inflate area without filling density.

City-states and small coastal economies often sit at the top of the density table even when their total population is modest.
